This must be the year of the hat, I felt the need for a fur one in January, and in July I really needed a sunhat. My walking group goes out once a month on a Tuesday for a five mile walk and in July the temperature was predicted to be close to 30degC. I decided on the Monday that I really should have a hat.
Browsing the web led me to Lorenna Buck ‘s blog.
She has some free downloadable patterns, and I liked her sunhat. It only takes a small amount of fabric. I had bought some mauve polka linen which turned out to be too thick for a skirt.
It has six panels for the crown and the brim is one piece. It took me an afternoon to make. You sew two pairs of two panels, then the remaining panels to each of the pairs. The triples are then sewn together and it forms the crown. I made the lining from the remains of my linen shirt fabric. The brim is reinforced with stiff interfacing.
